Roadways that access US Highway 27 provide dangerous avenues for turtles and other wildlife to approach. The arrow points to a juvenile Florida softshell turtle that is using this road to approach the highway. Note that this is a dangerous problem because there is no fence to stop this turtle as it approaches the highway. Our temporary fence can not block road access to the highway so turtles freely move down the access road to the "killing zone". A permanent solution will have to include a design that does not allow animals to use access roads for travel. This turtle was saved because biologists found it just in time before it ventured on to the highway.
